Jet Fighter Movies - October is here. For many of us, the temperature is dropping and daylight hours are short, so it is inevitable that we will spend a few more hours indoors. There's no shame in using some of that time to take a trip down movie theater memory lane. There's no shortage of great military movies from the '80s, but I've narrowed them down to five.
Anytime you compile a movie list like this, you're bound to miss out on some good picks. In a decade like the 1980s, when there was a long list of major movies depicting military service or war, the chances of losing sleep became more significant. After all, how do you choose between Clint Eastwood's "Heartbreak Ridge" and Robin Williams' "Good Morning Vietnam"? Long story short, I didn't include any, and I'm sure that would ruffle a few feathers.
Jet Fighter Movies
That's the good thing about the movie and analyzing its value or impact. A movie that means the world to you may mean nothing to the next guy. Their value to you is not diminished by your opinion and it doesn't have to be. Everyone can have their own preferences.
Our Top 10 Fictional Combat Aircraft From The Movies
So, knowing that this list will never end and will probably drive some people crazy, here is a list of the best military movies of the 1980s.
This film's inclusion on the list should be denied from the outset: to be a good military film, you don't need to be realistic. "Iron Eagle" is many things, but truth is not one of them.
For those who haven't seen it, "Iron Eagle" is the story of a young man named Doug Masters who dreams of becoming a pilot like his father, US Air Force pilot Ted Masters. When Col. was shot. Teachers in the fictional Arab nation of Bilya, Doug enlists the help of a fighter pilot, Colonel "Chappy" Sinclair. The two conspire to steal F-16 Fighting Falcons and somehow get them to the Middle East, take out the entire air force, land at an enemy airfield, and bring Doug's father home.
This movie is about as realistic as my chances of being president in 2020, but that's nothing. This silly game is fun to watch, especially if you like watching funny movies.
Fighter Pilot Film Devotion Opens This Week: 4 Things To Know
While it may be a bit slow compared to today's big-budget movies, "Red Dawn" earns its place on this list thanks to a talented young cast (some of whom have found success in Hollywood) and its critical approach to portray an America that is not only at war... but has lost it.
"Red Dawn" could definitely be classified as American propaganda, but if you ask me, that makes it entertaining. Despite the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia was one of America's main diplomatic rivals in the world, making it much easier for Wolverine to take his city from the combined forces of Cuba and the Soviet Union.
If you can watch this movie and not yell "Wolverines" at the top of your lungs, you're a better movie buff than I am.
What do you get when you take two future governors, a Hollywood writer and Apollo Creed and stick them in the woods with a bunch of guns? You get what is perhaps the greatest piece of satire of all time.
Movies Set On Planes To Keep You Entertained Until Your Next Flight
It may surprise you to learn that I refer to "Predator" as a satire film, but if you take a step back and really look at the structure of this film, you'll realize that it was a very clever big-budget flop. Action movies from the 80s. It has all the makings of a fun 80s vehicle, but is delivered in a way that takes the wind out of our heroine's sails. After using classic gaming tactics to easily take out a village of villains, the Dutch special forces face a more worthy adversary: a monster who has no tolerance for the film's main characters.
What follows is a swift transition from action flick to short feature, and a film that not only captures the moment, but offers a comprehensive critique of movie culture as a whole.
While "Top Gun" may rank second on this list, it ranks first in terms of recruiting. "Top Gun" gave many Americans their first glimpse into the world of naval ships and, in particular, the original Naval Academy.
With the long-awaited sequel scheduled to release later this year, the appeal of "Top Gun" clearly stands the test of time, even if Maverick is a badass pilot who has no place aboard an F-14 Tomcat. This film created a boom in naval recruiting, with some recruiters setting up tables outside the theater doors to interact with young aspiring pilots while their blood pressure continued to rise.
China's Own 'top Gun'
Once again, "Top Gun" proves that you don't have to be serious to be great. I hope the new one can do that.
After the huge success that was "Alien", the long-awaited somehow managed to add a bunch of spaceships and still retains the cool atmosphere of the planet known as "Alien". Now this movie may not take place in a fictional Arab nation or involve current branches of the military, but who doesn't love a story about space marines fighting monsters?
This movie may be the least "military" of all, but it's also the most enjoyable to watch over and over again, which gets the most credit in my book. For Marines like me, we may not want to associate ourselves with wimpy private Bill Paxton. Hudson, but let's be honest with ourselves... a few howls are warranted when an alien is chasing you with acid for blood.
That makes it our list of the best military movies of the 1980s. So the question is: what's on your list?

Thunder In The Cinema: Hollywood's Jet Age Movies
This movie is famous for its excellent video angles and real-time aerial combat. It has a great story but it is very limited in the dogfighting that is shot in the movie. The method used to capture and shoot the film is excellent, with excellent photographers and excellent camera work. The technical details shown in the film were excellent. All flight sequences in the film were shot with actual aircraft and aerial footage and photography, without the use of CGI. To capture the high-speed movements, a specially designed camera was integrated into the Mirage 2000 aircraft which then flew past.
